San Francisco Bay Area high school students regularly participate in Grand Lodge’s annual National Essay
Contest. Participants are given up to two hours to write an essay in English
not to exceed 500 words on a contemporary subject regarding Asian Americans in the United States. The 2008 essay contest will be March 1, 2008.
A yearly highlight is the presentation of the High School Academic and Leadership Scholarships, which are presented
to college bound San Francisco high school graduates. Judging criteria is based on academic excellence, extracurricular (school and community)
activities, financial need and a personal interview. A record 18 scholarships
