Education

For many years the San Francisco Lodge has stressed the importance of the education of young people.  Throughout the decades, the Lodge has provided numerous scholarships to high school and college students to assist their pursuit of academic excellence.

 

San Francisco Bay Area high school students regularly participate in Grand Lodge’s annual National Essay Contest.  Participants are given up to two hours to write an essay in English not to exceed 500 words on a contemporary subject regarding Asian Americans in the United States.  The 2009 essay contest will be March 7, 2009.

2007 High School Academic and Leadership Scholarship Recipients

A yearly highlight is the presentation of the High School Academic and Leadership Scholarships, which are presented to college bound San Francisco high school graduates.  Judging criteria is based on academic excellence, extracurricular (school and community) activities, financial need and a personal interview.  A record 18 scholarships were presented to graduates of the Class of 2007 and 2008.  In addition, special scholarships are presented to graduates sponsored and presented by
